Talkeetna Beer Festival

Talkeetna, Alaska

The Talkeetna Beer Festival - known locally as the Talkeetna Brewfest - is a small-town Alaska beer festival with one of the best backdrops in American craft beer. Each September the lawn beside Susitna Hall at the Denali Education Center's Talkeetna campus fills with tasting tents pouring beers from more than fifteen breweries from around the state, with live music and an afternoon-long party under the shadow of North America's highest peak.

The festival is a fundraiser twice over, benefiting both the Denali Education Center and the Brewers Guild of Alaska, which gives it an unusually strong statewide lineup for a town of a few hundred people - breweries make the trip from Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley, and beyond to pour alongside the locals.

Talkeetna itself punches far above its weight in beer terms: it is the home of Denali Brewing Company, one of Alaska's best-known independent breweries, and the town's roadhouse-and-riverboat main street makes a memorable base for a festival weekend. September timing lands after the summer tourist crush, when the town belongs to Alaskans again.
