The Wooly Pig Farm Brewery operates on a 90-acre historic farm in east central Ohio, situated overlooking the Tuscarawas River. This location, which belonged to the Norman family for over 150 years, features an old farmhouse and a red barn dating back to 1899, establishing a strong connection to the agricultural history of the region. Founded by brewmaster Kevin Ely and Jael Malenke, alongside her brother Aaron Malenke and his wife Lauren, the brewery opened with the intent to honor German brewing traditions integrated with land stewardship. The brewing operation is housed within a converted barn, utilizing rustic materials salvaged from the property, and sources its water from a well originally developed by the farm's previous owners. While focusing on traditional styles, the farm also cultivates Saaz hops on 20-foot trellises for seasonal lagering processes. The farm maintains a commitment to sustainable practices, which includes raising Mangalitsa heritage pigs that consume the brewery's spent grain, mirroring a practice Ely observed during his time in Bavaria. This integrated system of brewing and farming is managed by the family, with the farm component overseen by Aaron and Lauren Malenke.
