Frederick Miller established the brewing operation in Milwaukee in 1855, utilizing a specific brewer’s yeast strain he brought from Germany, which remains integral to the production process today. Miller Brewing Company maintained a leadership role in the American brewing industry throughout the 20th century, notably introducing Miller High Life in 1903 and later pioneering the light beer category with Miller Lite. The company structure underwent a significant change on July 1, 2008, when SABMiller entered a joint venture with Molson Coors, forming MillerCoors to manage the production and distribution of their combined product portfolios within the United States. This joint venture operated until October 10, 2016, when SABMiller was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Following regulatory mandates, Molson Coors retained the rights to the Miller brand portfolio for the U.S. and Puerto Rico markets, while also acquiring the international rights to the Miller brands. The company operates multiple large-scale brewing facilities across the United States, including locations in Albany, Georgia; Fort Worth, Texas; Irwindale, California; Trenton, Ohio; Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and the historic Milwaukee site.
