Scrooge’s Politics of Humbug: Reading A Christmas Carol In Its Historical and Spiritual Context is hosted by Casual Animal in Kansas City, Missouri. Use this page to confirm the date, time, and what to expect before heading out.

A Christmas Carol is often seen as a morality tale about greed, but in its 1843 context, it was a deeply political response to the Industrial Revolution and the New Poor Law. Dickens issued a Christian appeal to his middle-class readers, drawing upon Dante for its structure and Celtic folklore for the spirits. When considered historically, politically, economically, and religiously, it is a Great Work of Literature.

The event runs at the brewery's taproom: 1725 McGee St, Kansas City, Missouri. RSVPs and walk-ups vary by event — check directly with the brewery for capacity, ticketing, or food/drink purchase requirements.
