The Capital Brewery Bier Garten, known locally as ‘Middleton’s Backyard,’ operates seasonally from May through October, frequently hosting live music and drawing large crowds, particularly on Friday evenings. Established in 1984, the brewery began production in 1986, focusing initially on traditional German-style lagers brewed using copper kettles sourced from the Krekeler Brewery in Hoxter, Germany; these original kettles remain operational today. The initial offerings, Special Pilsner and Munich Dark, are still produced alongside a modern portfolio that includes American-style ales, IPAs, barrel-aged beers, and hard seltzers. Capital Amber is noted as the brewery's highest-volume seller, available in cans since 1999. In addition to the Bier Garten, the facility features a Beer Patio added in 2016 and the indoor Bier Stube and Grain Room, which serve as year-round spaces for patrons and private events during the winter months. The brewery demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, having installed solar electric panels in 2014 and providing spent grain to local cattle farmers. Community involvement includes the Capital Brewery Bike Club, formed in 2009, which organizes regular rides from the facility.
