The Darkening is a kettle sour ale featuring an assertive tartness balanced by the addition of Montmorency cherries. Though visually black like midnight, this 5.2% ABV sour drinks light and refreshing. The flavor profile leads with a bold rush of sweet and tart cherry, while the low 17 IBU provides minimal bitterness. A subtle, smooth roast character emerges on the finish, lending light notes of dark chocolate that complement the fruit and acidity.
